D u f f y - Books in homes Central New Brighton School is very proud to be involved with the Duffy Books in Homes Programme. Children at C.N.B. School receive free books each term for the first three terms of the year, usually 4-5 free books for each child at the school. The books are issued to children at special assemblies by guests who present themselves as role models who share positive messages about how important reading is in their and our everyday lives. Some of our previous role models have been Jo Holley (t.v. presenter), Linda Vagana (netball player), Dallas Seymour (rugby) and many others. A newsletter is sent out to families informing them of the dates for each Duffy Role Model assembly. Keep an eye out for these dates because we really enjoy seeing the families and friends of C.N. B. School sharing these assemblies with us.
Duffy Books in Homes began in 1995 and has now been running successfully with the help of sponsors for 15 years. This programme has brought joy to many school and preschool aged children throughout New Zealand. Duffy also celebrates Grandparents Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and N.Z. Post achievers in Literacy by providing beautiful books usually based around New Zealand people and places.
When you enrol your child at Central New Brighton School you will receive a form in the enrolment pack asking you to fill out the names and birthdates of younger siblings under five. This is so they can receive a free Duffy Book on their birthday from the ages of 1-4 years.
Books are a great way to provide quality time with your children.
